About Ernesta
Tuesday 20th OctIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Ernesta (Nesta) (née Jacobs) de Roy van Zuydewyn. She was our family matriarch, mother, mother-in-law, Oma/Grandma, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away on our Dad's birthday, October 16, 2026, in Surrey, BC, at the age of 99. It gives us great comfort that they're now together!
For many years, Nesta was an integral part of Immaculate Conception Parish in Delta. She volunteered in many capacities, including serving as a lector at Mass, and was a familiar, helping presence at CWL events, always ready to lend a hand.
Symptoms first appeared in May of this year, and she was diagnosed with colon cancer that had metastasized to her liver. By October, we had lost her.
We are deeply grateful to the staff at Columbus Lodge for their kindness and friendly presence in Mom's daily life as a resident. We also thank the Fraser Health palliative home care team, the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission and Laurel Place Hospice in Surrey for the compassion and care they showed her and our family in her final weeks.
Nesta will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
