This fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation was created in memory of a special loved one.
Nicole Hulstein, a loving mother, wife, daughter, and sister, whose kindness and thoughtfulness shaped everyone around her, died August 30, 2026, in Kelowna, BC, of breast cancer. She was 37.
Nicole was the sister her brothers looked up to and the daughter her parents were endlessly proud of. She excelled at whatever she set her mind to — an accomplished gymnast, volleyball player, and student — and was famously, ferociously competitive over a board game, playing to win no matter who sat across from her. But for all the ways her family held her up as exceptional, Nicole stayed humble and would have waved off any such praise. What people remember most isn't her many accolades, but who she was regardless of the outcome — steadfast, generous, and unwavering in her character, an inspiring big sister, a true friend, an incredible wife, and someone who would do anything for the people she loved.
From the time of her diagnosis with stage IV breast cancer in early 2024, the team of doctors, nurses and support staff at BC Cancer in Kelowna provided our family with prompt amazing care. With their support, we were able to continue to raise our family and make lasting memories. We will be eternally grateful for their care in this challenging time.
In honour of Nicole, we are raising funds for the BC Cancer Foundation Breast Cancer Research Fund. This broad fund supports breast cancer research across BC Cancer, helping advance our understanding of the disease and improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes. It provides flexibility to support areas of greatest need in breast cancer research.
